Eligible Students:

All kindergarten (students must turn 5 by July 31st, 2009) through 7th grade students currently living in the state of Indiana are eligible to apply, enroll, and attend The Project School.  There are no admissions requirements to attend The Project School.

The Enrollment, Lottery, and Notification Process:

Application Eligibility and Process:

The parent or legal guardian of any eligible student must completely fill out The Project School Student Application and mail, fax, or hand deliver it to 1145 East 22nd Street.  All applications will be kept on file at 1145 East 22nd Street.  After the receipt of any application, The Project School will contact the family to answer any questions they might have, to notify them of open houses, or set up individual meetings to get more information about the school.

The Project School will accept applications for open enrollment until 5:00 on Thursday May 7th.  On Friday May 8th, all student applications will be counted and if there are more applicants than open spots at any grade level there will be a public lottery to assign students to open spots.

The Lottery:

The Project School will place the name of each student on a piece of paper (each student will have his/her own piece of paper).  Kindergarten, first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh grades will each have their own color of paper.  (Kindergarten = Blue, first grade = yellow, etc.) The student names at each grade level will be placed in separate containers for the lottery.  Each grade level will have its own lottery thus all the names for each grade level will have their own containers.

A representative from The Project School will randomly select student names from the container, one grade level at a time starting with the lowest grade level, for open spots.  When 50 names have been selected for the current grade level those student names will be entered onto a list in the order they were drawn to be notified by The Project School.  After 50 names have been selected the remainder of the names will then be pulled from the container and placed on The Project School waiting list in the order they were drawn.

Sibling Preference:

The only admission preference at The Project School is for families with more than one child applying to the school.  In year one, if a student name is drawn who has a sibling (s) also applying to The Project School, that student’s sibling (s) will automatically be admitted into The Project School.  If the first sibling pulled is at a lower grade level, the older sibling will automatically be admitted at the high grade level.  If the first sibling pulled is at a high grade level, the sibling at the lower grade level will be admitted and the last student name selected at that grade level will be placed at the top of the waiting list for that grade level.  After the first year, if a student’s sibling is already attending the school that student will be automatically be enrolled if there are any open spots at the student’s grade level.  In the event a sibling applies during the school year and there is a waiting list, that student will be placed at the top of the waiting list for their grade level.

Notification:

After the public lottery, The Project School will notify all families and students who have been selected for spots as well as those who are on the waiting list for any grade level.  This notification will be done within 3 business days.  Each family will have one week from notification to accept their spot at the project school.  If a family does not accept the spot within that week, their spot will be offered to the first student on the waiting list for that grade level.

Admission After Open Enrollment:

After the open enrollment period if a student applies to the school and there is an open spot at their grade level, that student will be automatically admitted to the school.
